Program: The Impact of Artificial Light at Night (“ALAN”) on Plants and Insects

Speaker: Dr. Seymoure is a board member of the Missouri Chapter of the International Dark-Sky Association and behavioral ecologist studying the effects of lighting on animal behavior, physiology, and ecology. In particular, his research investigates how both natural light cycles (e.g. daylight, twilight, full moon, etc.) and anthropogenic lighting (e.g. LEDs, high pressure sodium, sky glow, etc.) drive and disturb organisms from the physiological level up to ecosystems.

Our Mission

The mission of DarkSky Missouri is to raise awareness about light pollution issues in Missouri, promote quality outdoor lighting, protect our natural environment and our beautiful night sky, and educate the public how reducing light pollution can lower energy costs.
